Prayers for Wisdom

 

As our community assesses our situation and need for ongoing support, we pray for the wisdom to plan and make decisions that will lead to the fulfillment of our Camaldolese charism. We ask your continued prayers for wise stewardship of The Monastery of the Risen Christ as we venture together into the future.

 

Our Situation

 

The Monastery is located in San Luis Obispo near California’s southern central coast. We are at 250-feet above sea level in the Coast Range Mountains and over three miles from the nearest city. The tranquility and incredible beauty of our location was cherished by the monks who founded the Monastery over twenty-seven years ago, and is equally cherished by the current monastic community and our many retreat guests and day visitors who visit from all over the world. Our isolation and beauty, however, come at a cost. We are in many ways like a small village, responsible for generating much of our own electricity, providing our own water, maintaining our roads, maintaining our buildings and infrastructure, and depending on satellite communications for our connection to the outside world. While most of our maintenance work is done by our own live-in workers, which helps to significantly lower our overhead costs, we still face significant, non-negotiable costs such as water, propane for individual living quarters, automotive fuel, satellite hardware and service, food delivery services, and numerous other recurring costs necessary for the daily operations of the Monastery.

 

We support ourselves through retreat donations, sales in our gallery, book and gift shop, sales of our delicious fruit and date nut cakes, and through the generous donations of our supporters and friends. Contributions are deductible for federal income tax purposes under Section 170 of the IRS Code. A formal acknowledgment of your gift will be forwarded to you to support your deduction.

 

Annual Giving Campaigns

Bequests, Legacies, Trusts, Transfers, Gifts

 

You may designate the Monastery as the recipient of a bequest, charitable trust or gift. Bequests, legacies, devises, transfers or gifts are deductible for federal estate and gift tax purposes under Sections 2055, 2106 and 2522 of the IRS Code.
